An interesting read with some interesting charecters. The pace picks up and the story grows more intriguing and engrossing until everything comes together so perfectly satisfyingly in the end. As Nonny’s Bar Mitzvah year trip turns into an amazing adventure, he not only finds himself befriending a notorious criminal, and a great actress, but confronts the great mystery of his own identity.
A coming of age story that seems entirely far-fetched, and yet has its basis in standard adolescent questions and emotions. Apr 26, Andrea Ussy rated it really liked it. The latter was my favourite character in the book — warm, quirky and completely understanding of this mixed up kid.
I didn’t care about the plot or anything really, it was interesting, but no more.

This book started out kind of slowly and the prose seemed kind of choppy, even for a translation, but the grossmab grew on me and the plot soon became so involved that it was not at all disappointing. There are no discussion grozsman on this book yet. Published August 1st by Picador first published Grossman had just been translated into English and she thought I might enjoy his work.
Een avontuurlijke schelmenroman over groei naar volwassenheid maar ook met een mooi liefdesverhaal, met ontroering, spanning en humor. I got this book largely by accident and found it a real treat.
